Howard Webster, a long-time supporter of Pal Zileri both on-stage and off-stage, brought an unexpected collection of influential friends, actors and singers together under one roof at the Goring Hotel in Westminster last week. A venue which sits at a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace, this hotel is best known for the famous Royal Wedding, as it was here that Katherine Middleton, then still Miss Middleton, planned all the pre-nuptial arrangements, and had all her wedding dress fitting with Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. It was also where she stayed her last night before becoming HRH the Duchess of Cambridge.

Howard’s evening at the Goring, on a more human note, marked a fund-raising occasion, styled with full Tuxedo glamour, for his new movie PURSUIT DELANGE, a movie which is an upmarket British comedy best described as a male Bridget Jones with a touch of Woody Allen. The movie is based on an internationally published column and a critically acclaimed short film of the same name.

Attended by high-net worth individuals from the worlds of hedge funds, private equity, investment banking, CEOs and MDs, actors, celebrities, media industry names, journalists and film industry figures alongside influential society players, the dress code was very formal as diamonds glittered in the ACNE displays brought for the occasion from Moscow.

Colin Salmon joined the evening with his wife. Known primarily for his parts as Charles Robinson in three James Bond films, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day, he was wearing a classic Tuxedo by Pal Zileri which suited his style perfectly as it did in Strictly Come Dancing where he danced with Kristina Salsa in 2012, aired on BBC television.

By his side stood singer, actor and photographer, Stefan Booth, another loyal supporter of Pal zileri who has driven the Londino (London to Portofino) car rally in his Bentley wearing Pal Zileris. For the Goring event he selected a more dashing aubergine silk tuxedo jacket, bringing variety to the strictly black dress code. Stefan’s career has seen him star in HollyOaks, and the BBC soap drama EastEnders, and more recently he has gathered great acclaim for his dancing skills in Dancing on Ice, followed by the key role as Billy Flynn in the internationally acclaimed musical Chicago, which toured for a full year around the whole of UK.

James Dreyfus, the star who played Martin in the epic movie NottingHill also joined the cast, wearing the Pal Zileri regulation Tuxedo and joined the fund raising of Howard’s film for his great support and admiration for British comedy and talent.

Many good tales were shared and friendships were refound, some dating back to Howard’s University days at Durham. The evening also marked the publication of Howard’s new novel Canton Elegy now out in hardback since Oct 10th printed by Osprey’s Watkins. The London Evening Standard described it as potentially the next ‘Wild Swans’. Webster is widely published in magazines as diverse as The Sunday Times, The Irish Times Magazine, Tatler and Russian Vogue.
