Dubrovnik is one of those cities that deserves to be appreciated not in one, but numerous visits, if possible. However, there is much more to fit in only three days of staying in Dubrovnik than just sunbathing or swimming in the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. Nothing wrong with that, anyway.

From boat trips to the fascinating island of Lokrum, to a look around boutiques shops and street-side restaurants or walking through the history of this exquisite ancient town, there is plenty to see, do and taste.

WHERE TO STAY

Staying in an outstanding hotel such as Villa Dubrovnik keeps you focused on the best Dubrovnik offers: stunning views, outstanding gastronomic experiences, impeccable service, great spaces to lounge and relax in and overall an indulgence in the Mediterranean way of life.

Located only 15 minutes from the airport, Villa Dubrovnik is positioned high above this ancient city with amazing views of the old town to the right, and the island of Lokrum opposite, both famous landmarks in the region of Dubrovnik.

With the Villa’s interiors recently renovated, in hues of restful whites, creams and beige, this award winning boutique hotel has changed quite a lot since last winter and this summer promises to be a spectacular experience for those visiting for the first time, and the returning clients, it must be one of their most beautiful homes away from home.

The new design has taken a change both indoors and outdoors, in the reception, in the sitting rooms, at the Pjerin Restaurant and below, on the grassy terrace of the al fresco bar “Giardino”. The panoramic views from both areas are breathtaking. You just need to take a seat and indulge yourself in a fine dining experience counting on the attention of the sommeliers who carefully choose the right (Croatian) wine to go with your choice of meal.

Another exciting addition is the exclusive private Villa Beach, where you can enjoy sunbathing and swimming from the shore, rather like it had all been inspired by Slim Aarons. The bright blue Adriatic Sea just glistens at you, and you can spend days on end without leaving the tranquility of the hotel.

WHAT TO DO

Special treatments at the Villa Spa are carefully chosen for you, and the products are all locally sourced. Located on the 3rd floor of the hotel, the spa is equipped with an indoor pool, sauna, steam bath, gym and time-travel treatment rooms.

On a day out and about, put on some comfortable shoes on and walk along the narrow streets of the old town. Don’t miss the famous polished pavements of Stradun, the Franciscan Monastery and Ploce and Pile gates where you are transported back in time while you contemplate some unique architecture.

And keep walking! This time above the city, in the old walls of Dubrovnik. A magnificent structure constructed in the 10th century, they are still seen as one of the greatest fortification systems of the Middle Ages. As in the old days, the walls still wrap themselves around the old city, securing them from hostile armies.

Enjoy a day-trip to the Island of Lokrum by boat leaving from the old harbour. Explore this rocky island and find out that it’s a perfect place to lie in the grass with a book, with bunnies and peacocks hopping by, around you.

WHAT TO EAT

Dubrovnik caters for all kind of people, including the ones looking for a complete Croatian gastronomic experience. Seek out the seafood as it is the best you can get from Mediterranean cuisine.

Favourite meals are related to fish of some kind. From delicious tuna steaks to exquisite seafood salads. Don’t be afraid to over indulge with the olive oil, freshly baked bread or wine placed on the table. It’s part of the guilty pleasures and delights of the rich Croatian cuisine.

To end the day, put time aside to meet with the sunset from the Prosciutto & Wine Bar, set on the rooftop of Villa Dubrovnik: it’s a unique place to have a flute or two, while taking in the best views of the town and the sea beyond. Zivjeli!
